Ponteland RFC Minis

4th October 2009  - Ponteland under 9's enjoyed their first taste of contact rugby with a 28 - 5 victory over Gosforth.

Well done boys.

The U9s enjoyed a good season in which they were introduced to full contact, scrummaging and lineouts. For some of the boys it was a dream come true whilst others found it took a bit of getting used to, but by the end of the season there were plenty of signs that augur well for the future.

The team played some excellent rugby on occasions and the ability to score tries involving lots of passing and good movement.  The poor weather in the middle of the season meant that work on rucking and mauling was delayed until later in the season, probably too late for the County Cup competition.  The main disappointment was our inability to field a team for the Alnwick Festival due to the fact that it was moved back into the Easter holidays when a number of our squad were on holiday.

We had a squad of 12 boys and 1 girl which we need to try to increase next season.  Hopefully as the age group moves up into the Middle School we can tap into a new group of potential players and we will send leaflets round at the start of the new school year.
